How this works
- Goes straight to the source: the registry (and then the registrar) for domains, and the regional internet registry for IPs and AS numbers, picked by IANA's RDAP bootstrap. No single box to flood.
- Old-school WHOIS on port 43 only for country domains that still don't speak RDAP.
- No registrar sees what you search, so nobody can grab a name because you looked it up.
- Answers are cached briefly at the edge (15 minutes, 1 minute for available names) so registries don't get hammered.
- What gets logged: errors and timing (which registry answered and how long it took) so I can keep it fast and fix what breaks. Never what you searched. Page counts come from my own Umami, cookieless.
